About the Championships

The ASCE Civil Engineering Student Championships are the society-wide championships for the Concrete Canoe, Sustainable Solutions and UESI Surveying competitions. Thousands of ASCE students from universities worldwide compete in regional symposiums in each competition to qualify for the championships. Winners of the regional competitions earn invitations to showcase their skills and hard work on a national stage, competing against each other before expert judges and the entire ASCE community.

The Championships were originally conducted as the National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC). Concrete Canoe, ASCE’s flagship competition, began in the 1960s with intramural races. ASCE held its first NCCC in 1988 where 18 teams competed at Michigan State University. The NCCC would continue with this format for over three decades as in 2021 ASCE held its first Civil Engineering Student Championships at Louisiana Tech, introducing Sustainable Solutions and UESI Surveying to the championship series. With Cal Poly’s host effort in 2025, we hope to uphold the traditions of the past, and provide new memories to last a lifetime.

Over the championship weekend, our host team will offer competitors, supporters, community members, and guests opportunities to engage in competition events, community service projects, local engineering initiatives, technical presentations, social gatherings, and a celebration of civil engineering!
